Busy To Beat Jack Frost
Friday Flaunt in Autumn

These Will Be Missed …. Frost Arrives Tonight
The warm growing outdoors days are numbered as we enter mid-October. I can honestly say I am missing the warm weather already and I will moss the flowers that are blooming to this day. A few of those blooms are in the collage above.
5 feet tall knock out roses welcome the autumn color in the photo above.

Today Red Arrived In My Autumn Garden
Outdoor time today was spent loading up the garden cart and hauling the last of the containers to the greenhouse. The local weather is showing the temperature dropping to 33* at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning. I’m sadden but also excited to start growing under cover.

Look Whats’ Holding On After Minimum Watering and Cold : Diamond Frost by Proven Winners
In the image above is one of the loads of containers being taken to ‘safety’ from the frost in the greenhouse. These diamond frost annuals have been thriving in my home & garden for 3 years now. I can’t wait to use these at Christmas in my home container design.

Tough Enough for 40*F Weather
These is one of the petunias’ I grew from seeds I received from my greenhouse sister Glenda last year. It was labeled silver but the autumn color sure is purple. I hope you will check out Fertilize Friday over at Glenda’s site : http://www.tootsietime.com

Communities Grow #fallfest11
Take a break from raking the leaves in your own backyard and adventure out into your community to see what seasonal activities are going on. On October 1st 2011 New Media @TheGardenChat shared the sights and sounds of a community growing together and celebrating the best of Autumn. During my visit to Philadelphia I had the honor of meeting some amazing people who are making a difference in their community where you wouldn’t normally find fresh organic veggies growing. It is great business’ like Subaru and Organic Gardening Magazine that support urban farms like the one located just five minutes from central city Philadelphia.
In the image collection below check out the food, crafts, and growing fun located at GreensGrow Farms in Philadelphia.

The Rain Has Open the Autumn Mums
Mums Cascade in The Landscape
These are images from my garden today as the Autumn arrives. The blooms are opening on the Mums and the leaves begin the fall from the trees as the sky weeps. With all the rain we’ve received this week I can’t help but wonder if those are tears of happiness of sadness.

Calico Betty Taking In Autumn
These are my shares for Fertilize Friday. The blooms on this share are in a bed where the mulch is mixed with broken down horse manure. The mulch was applied in early spring and provided blooms all summer long. Be sure to stop by my friends Glenda’s Site at Tootsie Time.com
#rosechat on Healthy Roses Year-Round

Back in early Spring I tweeted a S.O.S. out to my gardening friends on #gardenchat. It was no surprise that I was connect to at least a dozen garden enthusiast all eager to help with advice or at least rally the troops for more information. Once the questions were answered and my fear of roses were overcome I’ve continued to share my healthy roses to this day. Read more about the advice I was given using social media and how it gave me healthy rose blooms all season long. The pruning advice provided by Chris at @RedneckRosarian give my landscape color from roses unlike I’d ever experienced before. In the image above I share with you my roses by Proven Winners and Knock Out that are still blooming crazy along with my mums here in Ohio.

To ensure continuous blooms for next year I made a quick call to my dear friend Chris. In the podcast today you will learn basic rose care for Autumn gardens. If you have any additional questions be sure to tweet into #rosechat tonight on Twitter. You can find more information about that event at #rosechat.

Did you know that disease can hang around till next year if you don’t clean up around the rose shrub the correct way? Listen into these tips from @redneckrosarian.
