With a mission to bring back Sunday Supper Around the Family Table in every home how can you not tweet about that? The Family Table can be anywhere as long as the main ingredient is Love. This is Isabel Foodies goal each week as she organizes and supports other foodies who share a #SundaySupper recipe. I’m honored to be a part of this group and hope to share not only a recipe each week but inspiration on how you can grow what you are bringing to the table for your family to enjoy together. This week on #SundaySupper many of the participants have chosen a favorite recipe from Cristina Ferrare’s Big Bowl of Love Cookbook to share on their blog post as well as tweet about it. To find out more information about Christina’s book click here or you can follow her on Twitter at @CristinaCooks.
I do not have Cristina Ferrares’ book on my kitchen shelve but like most great recipes I’ve found them on the web. I particularly liked Cristina’s tips on salad dressings located on her blog site. Today for my #SundaySupper here in my Ohio garden I’m using her LIME & CUMIN VINAIGRETTE.
Growing My Own Salads Year-Round
For me and my family #SundaySupper is harvesting something that is growing in our garden and bringing it to the table. Quick, Easy and Fresh is what I enjoy most about growing your own recipes and this maybe why I love Cristina’s Lime Cumin Vinaigrette. “Salad dressings should never over power your salad. You want salad dressing to add a clean light taste to your earthy greens that are not overly creamy, garlicky or oily. It defeats the whole purpose of a fresh salad. It’s important to mix your salad and eat it right away” says Cristina Ferrare on Salad Dressings. Fresh and eating right away is never a problem when you grow your own this time of year. I need something fast and easy to put on the table with my busy schedule of growing the harvest!
My #SundaySupper Salad with @CristinaCooks Lime Cumin Vinaigrette
Today I’m using fresh lettuce and cilantro from my greenhouse and the last of the greenhouse tomatoes. It’s that time of year where all my containers filled with veggies and blooms are being moved out into the garden now that we are past danger of frost in gardening zone 5b. The salad dressing can be found on Cristina Ferrare site. I’ve actually used this dressing on Talipia Fish being prepared on the grill as a lite marinate. The recipe is super easy and pictured below off of Cristina’s site. I invite you to give it a try and let me know what you think by tweeting on #SundaySupper on Twitter.

I’m ecstatic to share that my first recipe using this new grilling pan I found at a local grocery store was a success. I have been looking for a product that would help me with my addiction for using foil to cook many of my favorite dishes on the grill. This pan with lid is the best and it really works and what could be better then having moist food from the grill without using foil?!

Have you ever grown your own celery? Last summer I had found a 606 starter pack at a local independent garden center here in Ohio and decided to give it a try. If you followed me on twitter last year you would have seen all my celery tweets filled with excitement. Celery was super easy to grow and it looked awesome in with some of my favorite annuals in my greenhouse landscape raised bed. Toward the end of the season the celery was getting a little tart but a fellow grower on twitter told me to blanch the celery for a quick fix. The advice I received on Twitter totally worked and I can’t wait to grow this veggie in my garden again. This year I’ve started some celery from seed that I found online. You know I’ll keep you posted on how those seeds do in my garden this year! I’ve shared one of my favorite recipes in the blog post so be sure to click on the image above for all the details.

Today was the perfect Spring day to whip up a batch of my favorite sweet potato soup with a Thai spin. Are you surprised that Easter was only 2 days ago and this recipe doesn’t include ham leftovers? This recipe always turns out smooth and rich with flavor heating up any meal. I hope you will share with me if this dish spices up your kitchen table sometime soon!
This afternoon I had the privilege of meeting up with my friend Kate Copsey of Americas Home Grown Veggie Show. Garden writer Kate gave a presentation on culinary herbs to a group who gathered at the Simpson Garden in Bowling Green, Ohio. It was a great opportunity to share with my online network Kates talk so I brought it to everyone on twitter using a live stream. You can view the presentation on my Ustream account .
I enjoy growing herbs year-round so it was awesome to learn from Kate a few new things. Did you know you can put scented germanium leaves into your cake dish before adding the cake batter for a yummy infusion? In the video provided you can hear all the tips the Kate provided during the lecture that took place this afternoon.
The Herbs Kate Brought For Testing
Kate brought some vinegars and dried herbs for the class to try as well as a few seeds for the attendees to try in their garden. I’m sure if they have any questions about growing them Kate will be happy to share with them. The wildflower seeds I brought with me as a gift from our friends at @Subaru_life . The plant on the table was my lemon grass cutting that Kate had been saving for me from her summer garden last year. What a beautiful day for a quick interview with Kate Copsey in Simpson Garden Park
Can you believe that is March in an Ohio herb garden. You can bet that a hot topic at today’s event was the cold temperatures we would be getting tonight.
Simpson Garden Park is a community developed garden. Volunteers maintain a scheduled set of maintenance work, with specific volunteers handling the responsibilities of Garden leader over each of the individual gardens in the park. Individuals can even arrange to plant specific flowers at the park. For more information on Simpson Garden Park, visit the park’s website: www.bgohio.org/departments/parks-and-recreation/parks/simpson-garden-park I can’t wait to visit the park later in the growing season to share what the herb garden looks like at that time.
Kate Copsey / Garden Writer and Radio Show Host
In the video above I asked Garden Writer Kate Copsey to share a little bit about herself and where we can find her on the web. I hope you will share on this blog post a comment about any herb tips you may have for the foodie friends who visit my site.
