Holland Michigan Getting Spicy

New Holland Brewing Company

This summer I was a guest at the Garden Writers Media Day (#GWMediaDay) put on by Proven Winners, Spring Meadow Nursery, Walters Garden and Garden Crossings Greenhouse near Lake Michigan.   My daughter and I had a wonderful time with talented writers from the Ohio, Michigan and Indiana regions.   One the last day of our trip to Michigan for this event we got to do some sight seeing with new friends.

Lunch with Michigan Garden Writers

We started our visit at the  New Holland Brewing Company after a rainy but fun filled morning of touring Susan’s beautiful home garden filled with conifers and shade loving plants.  I look forward to sharing images from her inspiring and ever so charming garden on a later post.  I highly recommend  New Holland Brewing Company the food was served fast and they had a great selection of specialty pizzas and salads just to name a few items on the menu.  I would have loved to try their in house brewed beer but it was very early on a rainy day and after a fun filled few days of garden touring I don’t think I would have been able to do much sight-seeing before taking a nap.  I was honored to be in the company of three inspiring garden writers.  In the photo to the right is Susan Martin, Nancy Szerlag, Julia Hofley and myself at New Holland Brewing Company.  These woman are an inspiration to me and my garden networking career.

Spices I Brought Home to My Kitchen

One of Susan’s’ favorite spots to shop in Holland is The Seasoned Home.  This was a friendly store with employees who greet you with the days special and well stocked shelves with unique inventory.  I picked out many new spices that Susan recommend and even found a few that were on special to celebrate the city wide sidewalk sale going on this day in August. I really liked how each spice was marketed in a plastic re-closeable package and had a label with complete ingredients attached.   I can’t wait to try the Smoked Spanish Paprika ,   Giddy Up Chili Lovers and Grandma Nettie’s Pie Spice.  I’ll be sure to share with you on my blog the recipes I use these spices in.   I was even more excited to find in the back of the store a large assortment of loose teas.

Above is my instagram share I made during my visit. Be sure to check out The Seasoned Home on their Website for specialties herbs, teas and more that you can order online.

It was fun sharing these spice themed publications on my Instagram during my shopping experience. A few of my #spicychat friends gave me a<heart >  <3 in approval!

I shared about some of the tea I purchased on Takeya Iced Tea and Me post.
