Where the Orchids Grow

This year has been an amazing adventure for my network at BGgarden.com. I can’t imagine what the rest of 2011 has in store  after all that I’ve been able to participate in just a few short months.  I was recently selected to participate in the  Social Summit Blogger event hosted by Costa Farms who is the the largest  indoor plant producer  for the garden industry.

The Social Summit was a meeting of net-workers from various walks of life who had the honor of touring the Costa Farms establishment just outside of Miami Florida early this month.  A few of the garden enthusiast and professionals  I got to tour with were  Stacey Pierson Silvers (Garden Media Group ),Helen Yoest (Author and Editor of numerous garden publications), Christopher Tidrick (writer and photographer),Suzi Watson McCoy (Garden Media Group) ,Steve Bender (Southern Living Magazine), Justin W. Hancock (Garden Designer and Editor for Better Homes & Garden) Stacey Hirvela (garden editor for Martha Stewart Living) and Judy Lowe (author at  The Christian Science Monitor). It was an amazing two days in Miami, Florida networking with this creative group that truly make the garden industry pulse with energy!

Networking In the Orchid Greenhouse : I like to call a little taste of Heaven

While touring where over 720,000 orchids are grown in Costa Farms/United Orchids’ 5 acre I had the privileged of meeting Dr. Kate Santos who is an expert at growing orchids. In the 210,000 square foot glass enclosure orchid facility, with the capacity to grow over 2.2 million plants yearly she shared with us some tips on orchids which I have included in a video below.

Dr. Kate Santos who is featured in the video above has been a guest host on #gardenchat.

I look forward to sharing more about my trip to Miami in the months to come because there was so much to take in I can’t squeeze it into just a few ‘blog’ post.    I would love to network with you so be sure to leave a comment on my blog so we can connect.
