All Smiles as I package up my cucumber seeds to save for the next planting adventure.
This past spring I had the privilege of meeting some extremely amazing folks at the Toledo Growers Seed Swap. I must admit I felt awkward when I arrived to find so many people sharing so many of their seeds they had saved. I had no idea this movement was such a big deal in my neck of the woods. When I added the store bought seeds I brought with me to swap the volunteers assured me there would be plenty of seeds to go around. Quickly, I didn’t feel so out of place. The image below shows one of the tables at the event sponsored by local volunteers in Toledo,Ohio.

This next year I’m totally ready to share the seeds from this summers harvest. Not to mention, fill my garden with more seeds from wonderful folks like those at the Toledo Growers event. IF you would like more information about how I saved the cucumber seeds in the photo above please click over to my post at ‘Seed Saving Super Size’.
More fun seed ideas on the way as I work in the kitchen today making zucchini bread and dozens of jars of cucumbers / pickles. Happy Summer Everyone!

How cool! I wish somewhere local to me did this. The historical plantation near my home does a plant swap once a year that includes seeds, but they do it in May, so it’s a little late for seeds by then and thy just sort of get chucked in a box.
I traded with some people online this past spring and it was a lot of fun! I’m planning on saving more seeds this year myself.
Thanks for stopping by Jennah. I KNOW – you had tons of seeds and I forgot to get a hold of you to swap some. We need to do that this winter when things slow down in the garden!
Ohhhh, how I wish there were one of these events in my neck of the woods. It seems like people here in nyc don’t really care to share seeds.
Or least I haven’t found them yet. This sounds so awesome.
You know…. I felt the same way meemsnyc out her in the country. I started networking and found a bunch of growers locally. Do a search online OR start your own seed swap?!?! I’m thinking about doing some seed swapping this winter online. Are you in?
If you do a seedswap, I’m totally in. I wrote a post about swapping seeds the other day. http://nycgardening.blogspot.com/2010/07/seed-exchange.html
AWESOME… lets organize something this late fall. What a great gift idea for the Holidays!?!?!
How much fun. I love saving seeds.
i have been swapping seeds via U.S. Mail with a friend in Texas and save some Marigold Seeds for myself, i guess i will have to come to Toledo for seed swapping, haven’t seen or heard of any closer to Akron, and it is fun too!!
How FUN….. some of my favorite items in the garden right now are from seeds I swapped with friends. Lets keep in touch so we can do some trading for planting Spring 2011!!!!
